Round of 4
#8 Seed: Led by Player of the year Tyler Hansborough, the 2007/08 Carolina Tar Heels were straight up winners. They started their highly anticipated campaign with 18 straight victories, dropping only 3 games the entire season.  Turnovers and defensive lapses caught up to them in their unmemorable Final 4 loss to Kansas, a game which they were down over 30 points in the first half alone. Even in defeat, then they showed enough poise and gumption to almost catch the hot-starting Jayhawks, ultimately running out of gas in the process. These young Heels leveraged their harsh Final 4 season exit experience as a spring board of motivation.  A more mature Heels team returned to completely dominate the field in their title run the followup 2008/09 season.  Coach Williams forged a better Heels squad with the humility that came out of their exit to National Champion KU, ultimately resulting in a second title banner under Roy's 09/10 stewardship.
