Round of 32
#9 Seed: This Notre Dame Fighting Irish squad was driven by a characteristic of all Mike Brey teams; superior Ball Control!  Led by Ben Hansborough, these Irish overachieved their way to a number 2 seed. They lost games, often by wide margins, to superior athletic teams in the then-rugged 16 team Big East conference.  A  #7 seeded Florida State squad showed the Irish the dance exit in double digit fashion.  A magnificent season was rewarded as Hansborough was selected 1st team All American, Brey was named Coach of the year, and even key contributor Tim Abramaitis managed to be named Academic All American, along with Big East Academic Athlete of the year.  All and all, a job well done on the court and, ultimately more importantly, in the classroom.
