#12 Seed: Great things were expected from Illini Nation of the 2001/02 Fighting Illini basketball team after their 2001 Elite 8 run. Led by Frank Williams, a talented guard with the ball seemingly on a string, and a tough-but-injury-prone Lucas Johnson, these Illini never quite hit full stride.  Coach Bill Self's team had his future Kansas program against the ropes in the final minute of Sweet 16 play, only to let the Jayhawks off by virtue of some less than stellar last shot execution. The foundation for the great 2004/05 squad was nevertheless put in place by these Illini players, with Luther Head and Roger Powell Junior making the most of their minutes during their freshman campaigns.
