Round of 32
#13 Seed: Bill Self's 2002/2003 Fighting Illini basketball squad was a talented young team that won all their home games, but had some trouble on the road.  Freshman sensation Dee Brown combined with Big Ten POY Brian Cook, running Self's high low offense with precision.  While ball control was Illinois' strong suit, it was their Round of 32 opponents' strength as well; Notre Dame.  Irish coach Mike Brey's unselfish team moved the ball around until a Notre Dame player had a good look at a 3.  Notre Dame ended up hitting 13 of 24 beyond the arc in this March match-up. The young Illini were shown the door after a successful season in which Self's squad won Big 10 tournament championship.
