#9 Seed: With 4 NBA lottery picks, the 04/05 National Champion UNC team might have been the greatest assembly of college basketball talent over any ten year span! The real key to this teams success, however, lay with coach Roy Williams. Roy left a rock-solid KU job to help restore a tarnish Heels program that was imploding. He famously took down the rims at practices before the Final Four to improve his team's defense. Williams deftly managed ref crews at critical tourney game junctures. His brilliant inbounds-play designs ultimately provided the margin of victory in the 05 championship game against Illinois. In summary, Williams leveraged his ample Final Four experience to calmly lead his talent-laden but funk-prone All Americans to their full potential - greatness! These Tarheels were a DOMINANT yet occasionally sloppy offensive machine which built and squandered huge leads - twice in the March 05 dance alone. In the end, this Carolina team showed enough poise when it truly mattered, and have the 2004/05 championship banner hanging in Chapel Hill to prove it!
