Round of 8
#4 Seed: The 2010/11 Kansas Jayhawks were dominant at the defensive end of the court, but suffered occasional mental lapses on the offensive end.  Bill Self's team showed-off his signature hard nosed defensive hustle, while KU's potent offense would roll over lesser talented opponents. The Jayhawks had the bracketing misfortune of running into Shaka Smart's tenacious VCU team in a what became a memorable Elite 8 matchup.  Virginia Commonwealth were an 11th seed that barely squeaked into the dance, thanks to an insightful committee that was crucified by some in the media. Smart's squad put on a 1st half shooting performance that featured precision 3 point looks, with 9 of their first 12 dropping long range bombs dropping through the nets. Bill Self's stunned  Jayhawks responded strong at the start of the 2nd half against VCU, but it was ultimately to no avail.  It remains a hard loss for the Jayhawk nation to stomach against the backdrop of an otherwise powerful 2010/11 season performance.
