Round of 32
Seed #14: The 2003/04 edition of the Stanford Cardinal put together 26 straight wins before finally losing an away game to Washington.  Coach Mike Montgomery's team featured PAC 10 player-of-the-year Josh Childress.  Young sharpshooter Chris Hernandez and a strong bench corp helped to catipult the Cardinal to a number 1 seed in the West region.  The Alabama Crimson Tide, a #8 at-large entrant from the powerful SEC conference, proved to be more than a match for Stanford in their second round match.  The Tide went on a 16-0 run late in the game to nip the Cardinal by a 70-67 score.  The second round exit was the 5th time out of 6th tries for Stanford at the time, with the Cardinal being a Pac 10 (now 12) power under Montgomery's highly respected stewardship.
